As Hoopfest draws nearer, everyone is checking the forecast to see what to expect for this year. In KXLY’s forecast we are looking at 99° Friday, 101° Saturday and 104° Sunday. This is isn’t the first time that Hoopfest has seen heat into the triple digits, but it does cause some extra precautions to be made.
In addition to ordering more water we have contacted our tent vendor to provide more shade where possible and reserved all water misters in the area so that we can potentially provide “cooling stations” throughout the site. But we want our Hoopfesters to be as prepared as possible.
Premera Blue Cross Tips:
Be hydrated before the game begins!
-The night before, drink 16 ounces of a non-carbonated, non-alcoholic fluid.
-In the morning, drink 16 more ounces
-One hour before the game, drink another 16 ounces
-20 minutes before tip-off, drink 8 ounces
Continue to stay hydrated throughout the game and afterward!
It’s important to drink more water than usual and to not wait until you’re thirsty to drink more. Once you start feeling thirsty, you’ve probably lost about 1 percent of your body water and are dehydrated. Make sure to bring a hat and a water bottle, and wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing. Wear and reapply sunscreen regularly.
We want everyone to be proactive in staying hydrated and healthy during Hoopfest, so please come prepared!
