Many basketball lovers are familiar with the saying “Defense wins championships,” as well as having the knowledge that free throws are an important element to determining the outcome of a basketball game. Since it is such a key factor of hoops, we decided to incorporate free throws into our tournament weekend, but with a fun twist: During Hoopfest 2017, if one of our young hoopers could sink a free throw, they could win a prize!
Hoopfesters 17 years and younger headed over to the corner of Main and Spokane Falls to compete in the Youth Free Throw Challenge. We had a lot of visitors to this area, which meant our volunteers witnessed plenty of impressive follow-throughs and Granny Shots. Only the winner and runner-up were able to walk away with the prizes!
Rayce Reeves shot his way to the top through the qualifying rounds, and is Hoopfest 2017’s Youth Free Throw Challenge champion! His prize was a JBL Portable Bluetooth Speaker. Our Youth Free Throw Contest also believes that second place deserves a prize! Mikkel Devore was this year’s runner-up and earned one of our exclusive Hoopfest 2017 Nike basketballs.
Congratulations to Rayce Reeves and Mikkel Devore, the winners of our 2017 Youth Free Throw Challenge! If you’re interested in participating in this Hoopfest element next year, you can learn more about our free throw contest here.
