Beyond the last weekend of June, we have interns working year-round to support our other important programs, like our IBA Youth Outreach Program and our Spokane AAU Youth Basketball League.
“We, as an organization, love to help students gain experience and hone in on their talents,” explains Bailee Neyland, Director of Brand Strategy and Business Development. “It’s always exciting getting a student, like Julia, who is driven to learn; eager to take their knowledge from the classroom and put it to practical use; and jump right in.”
Meet our newest intern, Julia Donovan.
Julia Donovan is a Senior at Gonzaga University from Oakland, California. She is majoring in Business Marketing and minoring in Psychology.
Why did you intern for Hoopfest?
I chose to intern for Hoopfest because I felt like it would be excellent experience as it combines my love for sports and my desire to help others in the community. I wanted to gain experience in marketing for non-profits and felt this would be the perfect fit. After attending Hoopfest as a fan and watching my friends play in games, I wanted to learn more about this incredible non-profit and all the programs that happen during the year as well!
What are your future plans/aspirations?
After school I hope to move to Seattle and work either at a non-profit or at a company that has a focus on Corporate Social Responsibility. I want to use my business skills and corporate resources to support local non-profits and help communities succeed! Eventually I would love to move back to my hometown of Oakland, California and work there. My dream job would be to work for the Community Relations Department of my favorite team, The Oakland Athletics!
Outside of school, what are some of your favorite activities?
Some of my favorite activities include playing competitive intramural volleyball with my friends, spending time with my friends and family, rock climbing and traveling.
What is your favorite part of being a Hoopfest intern?
My favorite part of being a Hoopfest intern is that I get to see all the behind-the-scenes of our programs like IBA and Spokane AAU, which support the community in different ways from Hoopfest weekend in June. I also love working in our very cool new office that comes complete with a basketball hoop if you ever need to take a basketball break!
Other random fun facts?
I spent my Junior year studying abroad in Florence, Italy, and can speak a little Italian!
I love watching Gonzaga Basketball, and going to games in the Kennel! GO ZAGS!
We love working with Julia, and look forward to all she will bring to the team!
