The Hoopfest 2016 Poster Features…

Spokane, WA For the 27th year in a row, on Saturday June 25 and Sunday June 26, Spokane will once again become Basketball City USA as nearly 28,000 players will flock to the streets of Spokane hoping to become a Hoopfest champion. In order to celebrate this occasion, Hoopfest is happy to announce this year’s official poster. Featuring defending world champion Golden State Warriors and former Washington State Cougars guard Klay Thompson, this year’s theme is “Addicted to the feeling of winning.”

“From young athletes, to 20+ year Hoopfest veterans, to former collegiate and professional legends competing on the court one more time, Hoopfest is all about the spirit of competition,” says Hoopfest Executive Director Matt Santangelo. “That is why we are really excited to announce Klay Thompson as the face of this year’s poster, he is a true competitor and champion.”

Before chasing history with the Golden State Warriors this season, Thompson perfected his craft in Pullman, Washington. Throughout his three year college career at Washington State University, Thompson would go on to set the single season scoring record for the Cougars and become the third all-time leading scorer in school history. Now he joins the likes of other NBA stars John Stockton and Shawn Kemp in addition to fellow WSU alumni and Super Bowl Champion Drew Bledsoe as the star of Hoopfest’s official poster this year.

Following up from last year’s “Let’s Dance” poster, for the second straight year, images for the poster were provided by Dan Baumer of danscape photography. For a behind the scenes look at Dan and his inspiration for the last two posters read this story.

Despite being the the largest 3-on-3 street basketball tournament on the planet, Hoopfest is more than basketball. It is a celebration of the Spokane community. Being a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization Hoopfest relies heavily on volunteers, staff, sponsors and the City of Spokane to bring the event to life each year and host the nearly 250,000 basketball players and fans. As a result, there are still many ways to get involved with this year’s tournament.
