Keith Dotson, Manager of Brand Activation and Events and an employee of MGM Resorts International for 15 years, kicked off our Las Vegas 3on3 Tournament each morning by singing the National Anthem.
Keith studied classical music at Miami University in Oxford Ohio and continued pursuing his dream by performing on cruise ships and theme parks, and eventually moved his talents to the Vegas scene.
“It just came naturally to me,” Keith explains. “In high school I was in the choir… I’m the only one in my family who can sing.”
The youngest of six kids, Keith laughs in talking about how everyone else in his family got the sports genes and would be the ones playing in the Las Vegas 3on3 Tournament, while he was more of a “theater geek.” In fact, Keith continues to do theater work, and even has his own company – First Step Productions – which he started in 2007.
“It’s my passion and that’s why I continue to do it.”
This being the inaugural event, what a better way to commence the games with none other than MGM’s own. Keith is right-hand-man to Paula Zappia, Executive Director of Brand Activation and Events, and the one who initiated talks with Spokane Hoopfest 18 months ago. With the help of their larger team, and Steven Kawalkiewicz – Event Manager for T-Mobile Arena – heading up the lead for operations, this dynamic trio helped make this tournament a reality in Vegas.
“It’s the perfect-sized event for us to kick off,” states Keith. “I think this is going to be a great thing for MGM and Spokane Hoopfest as a joint venture.”
We hope to have Keith join us in Spokane next year for a repeat performance!
