As many of you may know, the Hoopfest layout will be a little different this year due to the renovation of Riverfront Park.
The park was built for Expo ‘74 and after many years of daily use, it was ready for some improvements. Once the renovations are complete, Riverfront Park will be poised to become a showcase park and event location for our entire region. The new park will be the heart of Hoopfest, but until then the site will remain dynamic.
With the City of Spokane taking on major initiatives to improve infrastructure causing construction zones throughout the city, we had to go to work to reconstruct some areas of the Hoopfest site.
“One of our largest challenges will be communicating the changes effectively so that all the Hoopfesters can find their way through the site,” says Matt Santangelo, the Executive Director of Hoopfest. “With that being said, the changes have created a lot of opportunity too. The vibrancy of the Bennett Block and surrounding streets will be palpable! With Nike Center Court, Hoopfest Store powered by Nike, Huppin’s Elite Courts, Toyota Shootoff and Moss Adams Elite Center Court, the energy will be off the charts!”
With the construction in Riverfront Park, we will be moving Nike Center Court, the Hoopfest Store, Toyota Shootoff, Providence Medical Tents and Visit Spokane Info Tents out of the park. Most of these elements are being moved to the Bennett Block parking lot, located just west of Stevens between Main and Spokane Falls Blvd. Shuffling around our different elements to various locations also affects street closures. But don’t fret! We got you covered with a list of the street closures and a map of the street closures.
The park will remain open for Ten Capital Team Check-In, Avista Master Score Board, FoodFest and other various merchandise vendors. Riverfront Park will also provide the main thoroughfare that connects our entire site.
“We have several exciting changes in store for Hoopfest Nation this year,” Matt explains. “The one exciting change will be the addition of a Mobile Scoring kiosk at our Visit Spokane Info Tent located at the North Courts. This will give all teams playing at the North Courts the ability to drop off score sheets at that Info Tent, which we will then deliver to Avista Master Score Board. Another exciting change will be our Hoopfest Store. Due to the change in location, we will have a whole new look and feel to the store. So make sure you get down early to pick up all your custom Hoopfest gear!”
While there is a lot changing this year, we want all Hoopfesters to be aware of them. Check out the Hoopfest 2017 Map to navigate our site. Join us for another outstanding weekend of basketball!
